SMRC Winter Volunteer and Advocate Trainings

Jan 7 - 30 in Telluride

The Training

The San Miguel Resource Center is offering a 40 hr training that will qualify you as a Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Advocate. The training consists of 3 weeks of class time (25hrs) on Monday and Wednesday, and Independent Study. Independent Study consists of watching videos, doing some reading, and answering study questions.

There is an introductory night January 7th, at 6pm in the Community Room at the old library.

The Reasons Why You Should Take the Training

Further your education: You will receive a solid introduction to several fields, including social work, law enforcement, counseling, and the legal system. It is a great way to continue your education and investigate fields you may want to pursue

Get Involved in Your Community: It happens here, too! We are working to create a community in which people are truly educated and available to help those in need. There is a progressive network of agencies and individuals that assist people who are faced with violence in their lives. Break down the myths that exist around sexual assault and domestic violence.

One Person at a Time: You can help one person at a time. You will make a huge difference in individual lives by being a good listener who is trained to know the resources available in our community.

The Commitment

There is no commitment after you complete the training. After you become qualified as advocate, you can volunteer as much or as little time as you want to the SMRC. We are happy to provide the education and grateful for any time you can contribute.

The Costs

The training is free.
